An old timber barn was converted for residential living with an open floor plan. 'Rooms' were defined with furniture arrangement instead of walls to create separate spaces for daily living, entertaining, dining, and lounging. Whether vintage or custom, each unique piece of furniture was carefully chosen to be comfortable, sculptural and unique. Two large 120" wide custom sofas with bench cushions were upholstered in cognac velvet and are the heart of the living room. They serve as a cozy conversation area around the fireplace, while also being deep enough for an afternoon nap. The eclectic yet discerning mix of furniture includes: a pair of bentwood 1920's deco chairs, a custom leather finish stone and steel coffee table, a textural looped and cut pile silk and aloe rug, saturated epingle velvet pillows, modern cantilevered lighting and contemporary black and white photographs. Large scale furniture helps fill the volume of the space and matches the heft of the trusses, while the sculptural shapes of furniture and contrasting contemporary art keep the eye interested and moving throughout the space.
